Russia, Ice, and All Things Cold – Part 2 – Making Ice Cream

The latest ‘learning’ theming Chez Kiwi went Cold. We incorporated a Russian International Night, learning about Russia, Siberia, and then we took it a bit further and went science-y with cold and ice. Lots of fun and laughter along the way. Part 2 of this series incorporates the Easy No Machine Ice Cream we made.

Russian Night Menu:

Blini with Smoked Salmon

Caviar (sampled only by the Kiwi boys)

Stroganoff with Noodles

And for pudding we went ‘off’ theme, just to ‘Cold’ again and made our own ice cream.

It would have been nice to wash it all down with some vodka, but this was a PG rated dinner.

Easy No Machine Ice Cream:

Nice and simple, no ice cream machine needed. It’s super sweet though, and if I was to make it again I’d reduce the condensed milk a little.

1.5 cans condensed milk

600ml double cream

A dash of vanilla essence

2 bags of Mini Eggs, or Other Shell On Chocolate Eggs

More eggs for decorating.

Whip the cream until just holding its shape. Pour in the condensed milk to combine. Smash up the eggs and stir them in. Tip in to a loaf tin. Decorate with more chocolate eggs. Freeze for 4 hours or overnight.

Yup, really is that simple. The kids loved it.
